I finally got the official confirmation from @PrototypeFund .

Time to gather the needed contacts before I begin with next month!

is going to be a proof of concept library which doesn't make the same mistakes as . I'll base it on @martijnbraam 's work with .

@dcz im interested in this!, yesterday we managed to get support for the rear camera in imx363 with libcamera, so i can try porting it to liboscura when it reaches a prototype!

@pan How was the experience? Was DeviceManager easy to modify for that model?
Did you notice any problems I linked to elsewhere in the thread?

Which phone has the imx363 if I wanted to work on it?

Regarding libobscura, I am going to be heavily inspired by this: https://blog.brixit.nl/adding-hardware-to-libmegapixels/

@dcz @PrototypeFund @martijnbraam I don't mean to sound negative, but could you say a few words about how this isn't xkcd 927?

@craftyguy @PrototypeFund @martijnbraam Every improvement ever is xkcd 927, so I don't take it as criticism.

If you're worried about people using a niche library, then check out how many projects are using libmegapixels right now.

If people don't want to use it, then they won't. If the proof of concept ends up worse than libcamera, then let it die.

If it ends up better, then I welcome merging the projects, but so far none of my feedback had any effect.

@dcz it was not that hard actually, all the heavy work adding camss was done by the kernel maintainer, so i had to dig into downstream and write the missing supplies in the dts, and map them, it wasn't easy to find what they did, but it worked, im using pixel 3a, but it should work with pixel 3a xl
