@theking @chronovore i genuinely dont think java has too much merit, like literally any other jvm language is probably gonna be more pleasant except maybe scala

@chronovore

I just wish rust devs would stop telling me to use rust

@chronovore @theking but like each paradigm java covers, there is a jvm language that covers that paradigm better

OOP? scala
structured/imperative programming? kotlin
functional programming? clojure, kawa if you wanna go silly with it

@coolbean @theking @chronovore how about, you just go out today, for a nice walk, breath some fresh air, and just let ppl do things the way they prefer, that would be something really cool to do today

@chronovore @theking i dont even know how to interpret this, like im not claiming to? i still understand that some will still like and use java, and it still forms the backbone of the jvm ecosystem and all this is fine

but like, as a language? it is just kind of a relic of a very specific era and culture and i do question the sanity of anyone starting a new project nowadays and still choosing java for any reasons besides "im already very familiar with it" or "this choice isnt up to me"

@MiaWinter @theking @chronovore i say this with no hatred in my heart, its mid

like i get using languages for familiarity or even liking a language for no apparent reason and several things actually annoying you about it

(have this with lua, reasonably i should just use python, it falls in the same area of "very intuitive scripting language you can abandon for literal years and just pick up again in like 2 hours" while having a much greater ecosystem and fewer oddities like starting indexing at 1)

i just cant wrap my head around having such feelings for java
