That’s[fedi admins coordinating to defed FB/threads] why nobody takes the ‘fediverse’ seriously.
Threads is not the first server being blocked because moderator x don’t like the owner of that server. Imagine if signing up for a @gmail.com email meant that you can’t send or receive emails from @outlook.com addresses because the owner is mad at Microsoft.
They could have taken this as a big opportunity to make ActivityPub mainstream but nah, let’s keep gatekeeping our bubbles. They’re the only losing.
Do these people understand how federation works? I came here to escape the algorithms and hate speech and data collections of Meta, Twitter, et al. I don’t want Meta here, and most admins don’t either. I want a space that is hostile to <insert big social media corp here>, because that’s the ethos of federation. The whole point is not building a profitable environment, it’s to create a community. Meta doesn’t want to build a community. They’re build another app to collect data from, to monetize users, to make another cesspool.
I see admins rejecting Meta as proof the system as working. It’s not “gatekeeping”, it’s doing what the community at large believes is the right move. Thank you, admins, for dealing with all the bullshit right now. I love and appreciate all of you, and if I could provide all of you with no-strings-attached funding for all of your instances, I would, because you all deserve it. Love you all, thanks for building the right kind of community.
