After ~ half a year of massive refactorings and improvements to make pmbootstrap easier to maintain and to bring more performance and better usability, we are happy to announce the 3.0.0 release of pmbootstrap!
Personally my favorite new feature is that packages to build are now calculated and shown ahead of time, but it features so many more improvements.
Coming soon to a distro near you - if you want to use it now, grab it from the git repo!

maybe maybe i get this working in time... need to do some checksum stuff and then figure out the pmbootstrap side of things....
literally all this does it run `dd`, it's exclusively meant for laptops where you expect to boot some "installer" image. Whatever customisation stuff we plan to do will have to be handled at first boot because we also support installing to phones where you expect to flash the image directly (thus, this stupid installer app isn't needed)

Meanwhile techbros to investors:
If you’re using AppImage to ship your app on desktop Linux you’re doing a huge disservice to your users by perpetuating the use of a broken by design format that doesn’t even work on the most popular Linux distros without jumping into a terminal. Please stop shipping this format. Don’t use it. Don’t let your friends use it. Package any other way than this please
pmbootstrap got some big refactoring today to it's "apk" handling.
It will now always run apk on the host (no more slow apk through QEMU!) and should do a slightly better job at caching packages.

This should make some things like building packages go faster!
If you're already running pmbootstrap 3.0 alpha you can "git pull" and give it a whirl.

Since reddit.com/…/experimental_flathub_release_of_newp… got a bit of traction yesterday, this is WhatsApp straight from Meta running on Linux desktop using android-translation-layer.
android-translation-layer (ATL) is a Wine-like approach to run Android applications on Linux. Rather than running an Android container like for example Waydroid does this instead implements the Android API. Note that right now it’s very much work in progress and almost no app will work yet, but the fact that they have apps like Newpipe and WhatsApp running already is very promising!
Join the Matrix chat at #android-translation-layer:matrix.org and follow along!
The new "someone left their phone sitting there, take a funny selfie!" is the "open their ChatCPT app and mess with their 'Custom Instructions'."
lololol
Time to make it official! I want to turn #GNOME OS, GNOME's home-grown distro for testing and development of the GNOME Desktop, into a real production-ready general purpose OS. I finally blogged about it: https://blogs.gnome.org/adrianvovk/2024/10/25/a-desktop-for-all/
Mico27 released impressive #GameBoy color remake #SuperMarioBros Mini built in #gbstudio

For recap, this is what I’m usually working on:
Muzika (https://github.com/vixalien/muzika), a GNOME/GTK YouTube music client. I’ve been working towards fixing all the bugs to prepare an initial v1 release on Flathub.
Decibels (https://apps.gnome.org/fr/Decibels/) is a simple application to play your audio files.
Sticky Notes (https://flathub.org/apps/com.vixalien.sticky), an easy and intuitive note-taking application. I’ve been working towards a new version with markdown and other features.
And many more…
(Boosts appreciated)
