Said the guy who *himself* ragequit on trying to upstream one of my patch series due to having to deal with all the upstream BS himself, a few months ago.

At least I've actually gone through and upstreamed a bunch of stuff already, he gave up way faster than me šŸ™ƒ

@marcan one has to wonder why people like this would ever enjoy working at all (they like the power?)

@karolherbst Linux maintainer for 20 years. I already had the "pleasure" of dealing with him a good 10 years ago; I thought he'd changed but I see he hasn't.

@marcan Iā€™m not sure you deserve more respect for your technical work or for being able to put up with that sort of abuse on top of it.

I wouldā€™ve just said ā€œfuck it, I guess Iā€™ll just trade my mac for a random intel laptop and do something with my time thatā€™s actually appreciatedā€ and shelved the whole project the first or second time I ran into this.

@nyancient I'm doing this for the users, not for upstream. That's the only reason I keep going and the only reason I'm upstreaming anything to begin with.

@marcan bookmarking this so i can later in the future make a meme out of them using a certain template with the phrase on the second panel being "he'll never get apple hardware properly functional in mainline"...

@marcan why do I get a ā€œapple badā€, I donā€™t want to see apple support on ideological grounds in the kernel part vibe from this?

@angerman Lol no he himself was helping upstream until he gave up due to the process being crap, and now he's part of the problem. It has nothing to do with Apple.

@marcan

Following the few patches thread he helped with was quite confusing TBH. Looked like a middleman adding little value to the process. Not sure it really helped.

How can you be a maintainer if you can't follow the flow of email and patches.

@darthcloud To be fair the process *is* broken and terrible.

But you still have to lack quite some self awareness if one day you're rage quitting and the other you're making others rage quit.

@marcan How about trying to make FreeBSD on Apple Silicon happen instead šŸ¤£

@ZiggyTheHamster For better or for worse, actually having users is a big part of the motivation too šŸ˜‹

But at least we try to license everything that matters as BSD/MIT, so the BSDs can pull our code (and OpenBSD on Apple Silicon is already a thing).
