What is the best way to make coffee?
I don’t do Keurig or Nespresso or Moka pot or percolators or automatic drip machines or instant or coffee bags or anything else.
Yeah, I’m opinionated that way.
@atomicpoet Wait, what … no espresso? Is it a North American thing to call espresso French Press? Last time I got nerdy about coffee, I recall french press being very distinct from espresso.
Do North Americans just not do espresso at all?!
Also, if it isn’t clear, my vote is espresso! It can be done easily at home with manual equipment like the the Flair … lovely coffee!
@atomicpoet Ok, looked it up … french press is just the whole plunger thing. Yea … you all need to try making espresso at home!! The only downside is that it can ruin all other coffee for you, like even espresso from decent cafes as there’s often wide variance in the quality of coffee from any cafe.
@maegul @atomicpoet Aeropress can make a passable (to me) espresso but I haven’t taken advantage of this nearly enough since I discovered it. Just broke my Chemex so the Aeropress will be getting more love for a bit anyway. In fact, I think I might just go fix myself an “espresso” now.
@misc @atomicpoet Oh yea, I was hard on the aeropress. With my partner, everyday. Good stuff, and obviously super simple.
Since we got the Flair espresso machine, we haven’t touched the aeropress once.
@maegul I’ve never been into espresso. I just don’t like the flavour of the beans. Dark roast is just not my thing.
Again, I prefer sour coffee over bitter coffee. It must be black. No cream or sugar.
This is why I always go for light roast.
@atomicpoet French Press? If so, what's your technique?
@cenobyte It’s very simple. I put in my beans, then boiling water, sit for 5 minutes, then press.
@atomicpoet right. So espresso doesn’t have to use dark beans. The fruitiest coffee I’ve ever had was espresso. Obviously I’m not clear on what kind of coffee you’re drinking, coming from a different place, but I’m thinking maybe you’ve been drinking the wrong espresso?
