I've been thinking of this recently and like idk I just need to get it out there ig.
im all for getting rid of dumb and arbitrary age barriers, which is why my account isnt 18+ entirely or anything. I make sure to CW everything, and make sure at the very least the 18+ things I boost are CWd properly or has a spoiler with a warning on it if it's media. I expect minors interacting with me to not engage with anything lewd, unless someone is 17 (I'm only 2 months into being 18 so like I'm not uncomfy with that at all) and I know them fairly well.
however, I really find it uncomfortable how some people will complain and be hostile to *individuals* who do things differently. it's one thing to want a culture that is hostile to minors to change, but it's another to get upset at people who are putting their own comfort first on their own accounts.
I'll be entirely honest, when I'm older I dont think I'd really want to be besties with minors lmao. I'd personally not be comfortable engaging with that due to my own trauma from being groomed by someone double my age when I was 13. I'd rather just hang around adults. that doesnt mean I want every minor to explode or whatever, and if it weren't for that trauma I dont think I'd feel this way. and I think getting upset at people that are doing it for their own personal reasons to stay comfy on their little bubble of the internet is a bit silly and a little disappointing.
we can have both better treatment of minors both physically and online, but still respect people's boundaries and what makes them comfy. these two things dont have to be opposites of eachother.
