honestly i feel like at this rate misskey.io probably should start directing the flood of english speaking users to another instance
because like eventually .io’s predominantly japanese administration is gonna buckle under the stress of 10000s of english speaking users joining within the span of days
now i’m not sure if any instance administration would realistically be able to handle that rate of growth, but an instance with english administration would probably be better equipped for it without the language and cultural barrier
@delta what’s even going on there? why is everyone suddenly going to misskey? and that specific instance, given it’s a japanese one? i’ve been very confused and hearing scattered things the past week or so.
@SweetAmelia it sounds like people over on twitter started recommending joining misskey or something (likely starting with japanese artists moving over to misskey.io) but they only seem to be mentioning .io and not misskey or fedi in general
@delta i don’t understand why it seems to be catching on so hard compared to like mastodon and stuff. i’ve heard people very hesitant on mastodon suddenly start mentioning misskey and i’m like, what the fuck, how do you even know that exists lol.
@SweetAmelia idk, i think people got negative associations with “mastodon” or something (likely due to joining mastodon.social and only seeing fossbros) and not realizing or knowing misskey coexists with mastodon
and i mean, misskey.io has grown by over 300k users in the past half year, i think people outside of the fedi sphere are starting to find out about it
