anyone know what this thing is and where it came from?

i found it on mercari a while ago and bought it instantly since it's a google branded phone that i've never heard of and i thought that was neat

it identifies itself as a "google ion" but it resembles a htc magic and i'm pretty sure it runs stock android

the back says "google developer day 2009"

i was surprised to find very little about it on the internet. i'm assuming it was a freebie given to developers to start writing apps?

i don't have a cable right now since it's a proprietary htc connector so i can't power it on or dump the rom right now, but i've ordered a new one which should be here soon

@nano A mini-usb cable should work with that connector

@nano https://www.wired.com/2009/06/pr-0601-g2-handson/ judging by the wired article (which i assume you’ve already read), it’s really just glorified android devkit

@zebo @nano I never understood why, the only real consequence is that you cannot use htc cables with other devices. Absolutely nuts.
