Calling the Fediverse “Mastodon” is like calling computers "MAGICAL MYSTERY BOX FULL OF A COMBINATION OF JOY AND WHIMSY AND HATE AND VIOLENCE"

anyone who cares about people calling the fediverse "mastodon" is so fucking annoying like damn you could've chosen anything to get mad about and you get mad about someone who doesn't know all the lore using the term "mastodon" to describe the social network they use mastodon to interact with

you are not better than these people for going "um actually he was called Frankenstein's Monster"

@zebo its like calling gnu/linux just "linux", mastodon isn't a social network upon itself but rather a network consisting of the mastodon backend and powered by a collection of fediverse corelibs

@ipg i dont care that much but i think it matters more than both of those. the situation is different. its like calling all email gmail or calling git github, there are consequences when people dont understand the whole decentralization thing properly. but i think its probably the fault of the services for not explaining that properly

@ipg Actually, the doctor who created Mary Shelley in Frankenstein's novel is unnamed.
