gnome is good and if you think otherwise youre probably traumatised from pre-gnome 40 gnome
if you immerse yourself in the gnome software ecosystem its actually extremely comfy, theres so many neat little gtk utilities like parabolic, clapper, helvum, newsflash, amberol, and loads more
@nano tbh I argue that pre 40 gnome was good too in its own way
@itzzenxx yeah i mean i used it back then but when 40 came around it started getting really good since design became a big part
@usernameswift the only thing ive ever had to do to be able to Be Used To It is install dash to dock
@nano I’m just not a fan of breaking everything every gnome release
I would like my system to not be that unstable
@JessiCum what? are you referring to extensions? because afaik they are working on sticking to a standard that wont break your stuff with every new release. as for apps and the desktop environment itself ive never had an issue with anything breaking with an update, just extensions
@nano that’s what I’m talking about.
I hope they do implement a standard too! that would make everything much better.
personally I think that cosmic’s extension method is much better. it’s not as easy to code for, but a broken extension can’t bring down the entire desktop, unless something breaks cosmic-session
@JessiCum i believe with gnome 45 theyre using a new format which i think theyre going to stick to for the foreseeable future. over the past few years its kinda been all over the place
@nano one thing I would want is running extensions in different threads. I’m not holding my breath, but that’s what would make gnome that much more stable.
and I’m not going to say gnome is that unstable, it’s just if extensions would be ran in different threads, it would be less likely to keel over.
@nano it’s unlikely to happen, but I always wish for more stability. gnome is already pretty stable in terms of Linux, as long as you don’t use extensions.
now we see if they start letting themes work, as much as they hate themes, berating the user or distro builders for using themes is not going to solve anything, and frankly it’s just un-linux-like.
I don’t care if libadweita is good, allow people to choose if they want to use it.
@nano I keep thinking about giving it a proper shot but I'm also still fond of KDE's feel and theming
@splatsune if you like theming might i suggest gradience (https://flathub.org/apps/com.github.GradienceTeam.Gradience)
@nano Either that or they miss gnome 2
@nano True, but MATE is beginning to fall behind due to a lack of Wayland support, the fuckery needed for HiDPI, bugs in the window manager (E.g. signal-desktop freezes), and Compiz not being what it used to be IMO
@nano gnome good tho, it works perfectly for my tablet (got distracted before sending sdfhjlsdlfsal)
