literally stop using balena etcher!
windows: rufus
linux: impression
macos: disk utility
@daviddd@tech.lgbt@nano@yiff.lifewait wait, try ventoy!
@schrottkatze cp wont work for writing an iso to a flash drive though? it can't account for multiple partitions or mark the drive as bootable
@nano dd can’t either. dd just copies data. so does cp.
sudo cp /path/to/your.iso /dev/sda or whatever works fine and has less risk of you mistyping if/of and is more intuitive
@schrottkatze im gonna have to try this when i get home because i really dont see how this could work
@nano I read "impression" as "depression", though I guess that's how I feel when I have to make a Windows usb
@foxxo it advertises to you while writing. its also webshit, use real apps, not "apps" in a website-shaped trenchcoat
@nano @shitpostalotl @schrottkatze new linux user finding out everything is a file
@thelball @schrottkatze someone in the nix matrix room told me about that and i reacted exactly the same as @nano lol
@thelball @shitpostalotl @schrottkatze i know everything is a file, ive been using linux for more than half of my entire existence, i just didnt think something like that would work
@nano @thelball @schrottkatze the “surely it must be more complicated then that” instinct
@shitpostalotl @schrottkatze @nano tbh this is the first time i’ve heard someone using cat to flash a drive but when you think about it it makes sense
