don't DDOS people and don't do password reset attempts or malicious sign up attempts. that should be obvious. and yeah I don't think it's funny or even effective to spam the fediblock hashtag, it's useful for people who use it. either post authentically or don't engage, would recommend the latter.

My take on it is this:
People have been trying to resolve it without those methods for years
It has not worked
Things have to change, and if a DDoS attack is what happens, then that's what happens

@usernameswift Is that really true? seems to me that the amount of awareness this time around was much higher (also the stuff with Nina had more awareness than previously). It's not going to 'work' until people have a series of events they can look back on and see the pattern. going on the warpath with DDOS means people will remember the event as the trans being aggressors. that's already the way they want to remember it I don't see a reason to validate it.

It’s been going on for a long time
If I’m remembering correctly, Mr. thebad.space has been doing this shit since pre-ActivityPub fedi
Peaceful resistance doesn’t work all that often, virtual or real, and at some point you have to try something else Trying the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result is a hopeless pursuit

@smitten @usernameswift I really do appreciate your point, but I would also note that the only time we EVER get shit done is when we scare people into doing it.

@smitten @usernameswift And if that’s the level of action it takes to get people to actually do the right thing, that’s kinda on them.

@goatsarah
I went and read all the receipts I could find on Eris Disqordia, and they were really very minimal. It would be a stretch to say it was racist. The most severe accusations were about Disqordia spamming fediblock. So what did that accomplish, gave them a bunch of receipts for ammunition and honestly kind of rightfully can now say the trans were encroaching on a safe space. Versus taking the high ground and not engaging, and letting the minimal receipts speak for themselves. It just seems like a tantrum to me, I don't see the effectiveness historically.

@smitten I do. We got the UK Gender Recognition Act by forcing the government to legislate with legal action. We got Stonewall to support us by humiliating them at their annual awards ceremony. There have been organised transphobe groups brought down by actions that many would definitely not consider ethical.

All this stuff was resorted to after “asking nicely” didn’t work, for years and years.

Now I don’t approve of DDOS attacks, but I can definitely understand the frustration that can lead to it.
