For fuck sake. It was tech.lgbt landing on the Bad Space blocklist that threw up red flags in the first place, so now efforts from that community to speak up in their own defense have been branded as harassment on the same level as...Gab and KiwiFarms?!

...after experiencing what I did last week, that put them on the same level as Gab of Kiwi for me.

It's so frustrating to see people in his replies uncritically taking marching orders from him like they do. He's built a perfect echo chamber around him and now, far from achieving his original goal of protecting people, all he seems to be doing is tearing an ever-wider path through largely good communities.

It fucking infuriated me, and you can probably imagine that he never backed down from that statement, never owned up or apologized for it. It's not his style.

That post from him is what inspired my rant about neurodivergence and leftism.

On top of it all, that ableist fuckery is what sealed the deal for me. The guy is not to be respected or trusted, and damn sure not given the keys to decide what spaces are "bad" and what aren't.

@slips @silvereagle I'll be honest, I was not too hopeful of the post either. But that pretty much makes it clear as glass that he is not willing to heal paths or listen to criticism. Somebody needs to call him out. He does not deserve a platform with how hostile and manipulative he is.

@m Yeah...as much as I know that this is just how he responds to literally any feedback of any sort at this point, it's still important to see that people are trying to reach out and figure things out in a calm and nuanced way. Every time he flies off the handle like this, it gives more and more people a clear picture of the kind of person he is, and (I hope) makes some more hesitant to give him the influence and control he's after.

I would say that I mostly agree with Katze here. I can see why they said what they said, and I feel like they operate in good faith here.

However, I did notice some things, that I would say I disagree with, but I wouldn’t frame as malicious. For example, something I find a bit iffy is that they talk about how [contacting Ro directly instead of getting on a racist [sic] soap box] isn’t racism - “It’s not racism if someone publicly criticizes you, at worst it’s idiocy”. …I personally took this as them speaking like they know more than Ro about racism (especially this “racist soap box” that Ro is talking about), which, I’ll be honest, that’s probably not the case. But, that’s how I see it.

Oh, and keep in mind, I’m not trying to sit here and say “they meant it like that on purpose”, as I have au/DHD too, and I can get how it’s hard to say some things right sometimes. This goes for everything I want to say in this post.

For example, they also talk about “is it possible [for the community to help with the development of The Bad Space]”, but then it ends up as “why can’t the community participate? […] Why can’t I download the source code?” a few paragraphs later.

That’s not bad, but I can see how Ro took that as assuming the project is not open-source (“You literally don’t know what the fuck you are talking about and are making assumptions”). I would also say Ro’s response here is… usual, at least, for Katze hasn’t clarified that they might not always speak purposefully at this point in time, as mentioned before.

(I also don’t like how Ro is like “Ha, the repo is still public whether you want to believe it or not” and then doesn’t link the repo lmao - Katze: “Okay, where is the repo then? I’d love to know, maybe even contribjte [sic]”; Ro: “That has already been answered, and I don’t think I want your contributions anyway.” [with no link of the repo, still…])

Also, yeah, saying “I am not responsible for your relationship with your mother and it is very inappropriate [and extremely toxic] for you to project that on to me.” is kind of shitty when Ro also talks about his experiences later in the thread.

@silvereagle On some level, I feel for the guy. It would be difficult enough to try to solo-lead a project like this even from a position of absolute privilege; I have no doubt he's been sent some nasty hate mail that - to put it very lightly - was flat-out uncalled for.

That's why it hurts all the more to see him lash out like this.

If it is indeed true that tech.lgbt's initial inclusion on the list was merely the result of an unintended technical error, that still doesn't matter at this point now: this error has been deliberately compounded by his wild accusations and decision to consort with the very wannabe FediCops who exploited this error to capitalize on a past vendetta.

A decision he continues to make to this day - notice how he's not tagging out, whereas several of the users on my instance have expressed a need to get away (be it temporarily or for good) or even gone to do so already. They're the real victims in all of this.
