What's a fairly low end laptop that ships with and has a biggish screen?

@celesteh Cut that out! I want a Linux laptop, but I'm trying to preserve cash! You just have me pining again!

What's your budget?

Are you interested in refurbished?

@vincent

My spouse decided she admired mine, so the lowest specced Dell XPS currently for sale. It's probably better than mine because it's newer.

@vincent @celesteh Lenovo T480

(Refurbished, look for "Excellent" condition.) https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-ThinkPad-T480/s?k=Lenovo+ThinkPad+T480

Personally, I opted for a T-460 with 16 GB RAM, a 1 TB SSD HD, and Windows 10 Pro*. I used the Windows utilities to shrink the "C" drive to 120 GB. This is plenty for Window to live in. I then installed Xubuntu, which honored the existing Windows and set up a dual boot menu that defaults to Linux. I eventually opted to reload the Linux with Debian**. It went in and everything just works.

YMMV + $0.02 USD

*Windows 10
A) I have no intention of paying Microsloth some usury subscription rate for Win11.
B) I still need the utility of Windoze for configuring siloed proprietary f*cking printers.

**Debian
1.) With the release of v12 "Bookworm" Debian became a "kinder and more gentle" distro. Their honoring the necessary drivers for my Lenovo laptop just work.
2.) Their commitment to Opensource.
3.) As an alternative to a corporate borg that appears intent on burdening the Linux community with a propietary, siloed technology; SNAP. I believe this is a precursor to a "usury subscription" rate for their "product". (In addition to being a significant burden on developers who now feel the need to conform to a "new" standard.)

@Papa @vincent @celesteh Debian 12 on a Thinkpad is a good recommendation! I recently set up Debian 12 on a Thinkpad 490 and it runs very well (faster than the machine does when it boots into Windows 11, which is what it came with.

@celesteh I would have recommended a second hand Lenovo x260 or other in the series. It's around 13". Debian works like a charm. I have a 11 year old x230 who received its 12 update recently.

@celesteh If 14" is big enough for you and you don't mind an ARM SoC then a Pinebook Pro may be for you, although you may have to tinker a bit, especially if you'd like to run something other than Manjaro ARM on an eMMC
