Trans Refugee Questions, πŸ”„ Boosts *Really* Appreciated πŸ”„
Show content
Hi there! Late in the afternoon yesterday my country's government decided to propose a change to our trans laws that would, if passed, rob me of most if not all of my rights.

Considering this, my family is trying to gather resources so we can flee to somewhere else, preferably in Europe or Uruguay but for obvious reasons we aren't picky.

Could any of you that have been looking into similar topics provide any and all information you've gathered, please?

Stuff about topics like HRT availability, public sentiment, available trans orgs, anti-discrimination laws, and general political outlook in different countries are really really really appreciated.

I'm not asking for donations or housing or anything, but if you could say what you know and share this around it'd mean the world to me.

(Edit: for context I am a 17 y/o Argentine transfem fluent in English and Spanish that has been taking a low dose of estrogen for about a month, I am a citizen of Argentina and Italy, therefore also the EU)

@AppleAmps That's really fucked up, I'm so sorry. blobcathugyou

I've been in your position some years ago; in my research, generally Uruguay is the best spot for queer people in South America... but that doesn't mean it's exactly trans-friendly - it has good LGBTQ laws and isn't dealing with a fascist problem like Argentina and Brazil (YET), so the laws aren't likely to be repealed... but you'll likely still deal with discrimination :/

@AppleAmps Still, it's probably going to be the most affordable option, since it's right next door and part of Mercosur, so your parents will likely have an easier time getting a job there.

West Europe is FAR better on trans safety, and having EU citizenship is a huge boon, but the cost of living there is going to be MUCH higher... but if it's affordable, you should definitely take it, I heard great things about trans rights in Spain ^^

@AppleAmps Same with Ireland if you want an English-speaking country, but they have a VERY bad housing crisis and thus is going to be even more expensive.

On the other hand, Ireland also doesn't have any popular fascist political party and is much less polarized (for now), while Spain has the risk of Vox getting elected and stripping away trans rights πŸ˜“

Basically, the safer it is, the pricier it gets. Fucking capitalism blobcat_flopdaze

@SimplyTadpole
Got back from a walk and saw these, thanks for the advice!

Right now the main two on my radar are Spain and Uruguay, yeah. Malta too but that one's slightly more niche.

Still though, tysm for boosting and sharing what you know ^^

@AppleAmps oh no!! As an Argentine expat and trans person it really sucks to see such hateful legislature, I'm really sorry. Unfortunately I don't have any advice, but I wish you the best
