@zebo yes you technically can do that but i refuse to do that with anyone since not encrypting your messages when you have the ability to is stupid since it voids the whole point of using matrix (admins can just read your messages freely :D)

@nano @zebo Unable to decrypt: The sender’s device has not sent us the keys for this message.

@nano @zebo “bad matrix server” and “bad matrix client” are both redundant statements

@nano have they made on-boarding easier yet?

I remember trying it out in on and off thru 2017-19, never really stuck because of all the things that needed to be done just to get chatting X.x

@nano okay, cool!

So find other users and chatting is a lot easier and the app support is better now?

I remember needing to do the secret thingy almost all the time and on all my devices xP

@TrebleSketch you have to verify all new devices, this is required for the encryption to work and also doubles as a pseudo-2fa, but nowadays element supports scanning a qr code to do this. other clients like cinny usually make you match a set of emojis, which is also pretty trivial and only has to be done once

@nano hmmm, okay yeah. At least it sounds like verification can be easier for my own devices. No more fussy issues with trying to chat with everyone else?

@TrebleSketch seemingly no, unless you or the person youre trying to talk to are on a broken server, but the same thing goes for fedi and email too lol

@slips verify your devices with a key or another device.
