i dunno if it's me just being an elitist prick but thoughout middle and high school i always saw kids who were having so much trouble doing basic reading and sounding out words and i always wondered what was up with them
but i think now the schools that I went to were ill-equipped to teach them that kind of thing
i don't really consider myself a particularly strong reader but that's mostly due to my attention span, not an inability to comprehend or decode/execute word pronunciation
actually growing up i was really, really good at spelling, i won first place in the kindergarten and first grade spelling bees
@daviddd i should clarify, it was like, a quarter of the classes sometimes. i dunno if that makes a difference
@sterophonick @daviddd as someone who shares the feelings you do, atleast where I’m from it was more like 3/4 of the class who would take insane amounts of time to get through a single paragraph and couldn’t enunciate words like “government” or “divergence”. I wouldn’t say it’s dyslexia for the vast majority of those people considering thats just not statistically sound, rather an education system who gives people one attempt to become competent at reading early in life and then never really tries to help then again, leaving many people unable to do it ever
