last night i was thinking about how because my memory is shit and my taste changes, what really is the usefulness of ratings aside from capturing how you felt about it when you consumed the product? i edit ratings over time as i feel my opinion on something changes to keep it more accurate to current me, but really, it’s just as inaccurate if not more so. but i’m not sure if there’s a good solution to this. going back to a 5 star rating system would alleviate it a bit i think, but trakt doesn’t support that…

@SweetAmelia What I loved tends to change to “fine” and “okay fun” to “wouldn’t waste my time on it ever again”. But the trend is always downward personaly. - Still the show I loved, even the most embarassing one, I can still get why I loved them, even if it’s only for a few minutes in a whole season. Grading them and adding two sentence to them is a way of keeping track. On thousands of anime, my memory need the cheatsheet.
If I didn’t I would only check the latest animes because I would use up my time rechecking stuff I’ve already checked or skipped at the firsts minute of the episode.

@euphy i used to make very short notes about stuff id watch in my diary but i havent really done that in a while. i dont think it helps much either though - its just another way to snapshot your feelings at the time. and i do spend a lot of time rewatching stuff cuz ive forgot it lol and its kind of a new experience, which while sometimes kinda good, it mostly feels like damn if i just remembered shit well enough i could be doing actually new things instead.

@SweetAmelia Ultimately, my big stash role is to be able to enjoy stuff anew in ten-twenty years ?

…The seconde prop is to have something to say when someone talks to me about animes I’ve watched but I can’t remember one thing about it. One sentence can trigger a whole chaine of thoughts - and a social thing happens instead of the awkward “Well. I don’t quite remember. Ahaha”.

And third reason… I guess it’s the thing where you try to “have something to show for it” about having spend so many hours idly watching some show. At least let be something of a scholar about it, doesn’t cost much.

@SweetAmelia Beyond that I totally agree with you. It’s just a snapshot.
…But a snapshot of some dude I know pretty well if I may say so.
