incredibly long, autism fueled rant about a game thats not even out yet

one of the projects i really wanna work on is trying to make a better disaster warning building asset for cities skylines 2. they revealed what it looks like in a dev diary a few weeks ago, and due to my autism about meteorology, it annoys me deeply. they threw all of the different disaster detection systems into one singular building, unlike how they did it in the disasters dlc in cities skylines.

while this annoys me, i am determined to make it not stop me. it is a really ugly asset imo, and i want to do something about it. therefore, i want to make my own disasters assets, ones that do fit in with the vibes of the game, but also looking how they should. for example, a weather radar station you would find for tracking severe weather in the US.

this is the NWS Norman, OK. office. it serves to mainly track, warn, and prepare the central oklahoma area of severe weather. the radar it uses is the WSR-88D.

this next image, however, would be the vanilla asset in CS:2. it is incredibly underwhelming. the vibes are fucked, and it wouldn’t make sense to put warning systems directly in the heart of a city, which is what the building style of this asset is going for. the reason you never see radar stations in cities is because the data would be incredibly noisy, and might not even be the best place to put it in order for it to service the most populated area.

give me the smaller shit, give me the more rural lookin buildings, since that’s where these things are meant to be. obviously, the other disaster warning systems are an entirely different story, and maybe if i feel up to it, i’ll talk about them another time.

moral of the story is: i want at the very least the variety we had in the original cities skylines, and i will make it happen myself if i have to. (whenever i get the motivation to (and can actually use blender without wanting to cry and throw up (but who knows maybe this project will be the push that it takes to get me comfy working on projects in general and leads to me being a better person that can work on the ideas she has and feels fulfilled)))

@stupidpuppy I feel like my biggest problem with the cities building is the cost. it'd cost 10s of millions to build what's basically a combined skyscraper and radar. what public agency has that much money?? and money to be spent on nothing but luxury (because a normal office would do) instead of idk, more stations or better equipment.

@username9431 ikr!! like damn i wish the NWS/NOAA/SPC was funded to that degree that would be fucking awesome! its just so weird and such a silly thing considering they’re making everything else more in depth and detailed, but oversimplifying this one thing.

almost makes me wonder if they’re gonna add a “disasters expansion” sorta thing even tho they said it would be a vanilla feature…
