Clygro number 2 or 3

I have honestly considered just doing the extreme of leaving the horrible closed source centralised social media platforms since they are shit software (Twitch, Discord, Reddit, YouTube, Twitter) or/and have a shit community (Reddit, Twitter, Discord and maybe YouTube), I do plan on leaving Reddit, Twitter (I need to setup the archive) and Discord (unfortunately a Minecraft server I'm active in recently added a requirement of being in Discord with them being active on the guild and I actually value the server unlike them))

@Clygro Leaving shit closed source centralized platforms has always been hard because leaving communities you're invested in is hard, but I find it's gotten a bit easier now that so many of those communities have gone to shit

@anova yeah, I could really easily just delete my Reddit and Twitter rn since there is basically nothing of value on there rn, same with Discord until the Minecraft server forced Discord accounts to be linked

@Clygro Yeah the discord thing sounds very frustrating. I’ve become pretty passive on people enforcing discord usage in my life since it is honestly a pretty big step up from facebook messenger which I had to deal with for years, but you know they’re inches away from being fully subsumed into enshitification. It’s already happening, and none of those communities seem to be preparing for it

@anova I was asking for a Matrix bridge and people somehow thought that Discord wasn't broken (this was in 2021 irc) and that was when Discord really started to break, also one of the active members on that guild has quit using Discord and people seem to not think that the guild should move away from Discord, it seems like the admins want to stay on Discord more than ever and it's really annoying

@Clygro Now is probably the time to start working to make sure the alternatives are robust enough to catch the fall. The fediverse seemed to handle twitter fallout pretty well but I'm a little worried the matrix ecosystem isn't accessible enough to handle a discord collapse... Maybe revolt could one day, though I've never tried it

@octofloofy @anova I'm in 100 servers, but there's only a handful that I actually somewhat care about

@octofloofy @Clygro This frustrates me a lot about the discourse around leaving centralized online communities: it kind of presupposes that we all have no friends lol

I got off most centralized social media by... moving across the country and cutting contact with most of the people in my life. And even then I found myself relying on discord again within a year.
