@salt I envy them too, honestly. In the Chinese trans girl community, there’s a term called “天赋党” (literally, “naturally gifted”), referring to trans women who are naturally able to pass because of their bone structure, facial features, and body shape. To me, they’re like the ultimate version of that.

@salt Well, I just looked up what that term means on ChatGPT, and it seems like trans girl communities are pretty much the same all over the world.

@zhende do you have agp and hsts over there too?

@salt These two terms are basically just labels used by transphobes to smear trans people. I've never seen a trans woman identify herself as either of these.

@salt In China, we have terms like these:

* “天赋党” (naturally gifted) refers to the kind of trans girls we were talking about earlier.

* “天残党” (naturally disadvantaged) refers to those who naturally struggle to pass.

* “家长党” (parent-supported) refers to trans girls whose parents support them being trans.

* “家暴党” (domestic abuse victims) refers to those who experience abuse from their parents because they’re trans.

* “年龄党” (age group) refers to those who started HRT at a very young age. I guess I’d fall into this category, since I started HRT at 15.

@zhende
Personally I think the term is kinda meaningless but I also don't care to police what words people call themselves, it's fine.

@salt I admit I know absolutely nothing about Western trans women’s communities.

interesting to notice this pattern in other cultures except english because i do not remember such framework around conformity used in ukraine natively except for terms like "pass" getting literally appropriated from english without even translating them into ukrainian

@am_odarka Chinese trans women also mostly use the English word “pass,” just like in Ukraine, since it can also describe the transition from not passing to passing.

@salt By the way, my AFAB MTF ex had absolutely no interest in having sex with me using a strap-on. She just wanted to be the one getting penetrated, and I couldn't do that either because it would trigger my gender dysphoria, so we broke up.

@lizzie @robodoll Ahh, yeah, that’s what I meant. I think the translation got it wrong.

@zhende huh, the word "transition" is rarely used in ukraine since we have an analog — "перехід" would be more accurately translated as "journey" or "a transfer". i wonder if the strict adherence to "passing" for western beauty standards would develop as strongly as it is in ukraine (where it has matured or became appropriated into a potent transmedicalist culture) if not for the western cultural imports of media. noticing how centralized the global trans culture has become around the banner of english language and western culture can feel really concerning sometimes

@am_odarka I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. Without Western transgender studies, trans people in China would still be referred to as “人妖,” an extremely derogatory and dehumanizing slur.

@zhende i dont think of AFAB transfem as a term to mean "cis female who thinks of herself as transfeminine"

in a world when trans women are partially defined by AGAB and not by current lived reality, one can coopt the words and call oneself as AFAB instead of AMAB. but AGAB used to be CAGAB (coercively assigned gender at birth), so the sense of routinely using AGAB language as something normal is missing the point. so AFAB transfem is a play on words, the affirmation that all trans women are born female, that transitioning is really restorative. it doesnt accept the standard wikipedia definition of trans.

but nobody says AMAB cisfem or AFAB intermasc. so there is hipocrisy in how trans women are coerced to call themselves and not simply be female.
