@mira @ellie I have the personal opinion that if something* helps to spread the awareness about a hot topic, the fact of it not being 100% accurate or perfectly executed is secondary.

* The interpretation of Lily by a man, or the interpretation of Alba Recio in “Aquí no hay quien viva” Spanish TV series also by a man. Ok, they are men, they’re not perfectly played, but consider the absolute good that the imperfect interpretation makes by spreading the struggle and helping normie cishets to empathize with them, and helping trans eggs to self-reflect about the topic. And in both cases, they treat the trans topic with respect (ie: not making jokes, like regular “bully” movies do).

@cinnamon @ellie i think , its good if we have standards, and its hard to find representation in something that misrepresents the fundamental nature of something. that is a bad movie imo and also if we are talking about the actual trans woman who is portrayed in it, not specifically the film based on a fictional book, we can use her name. i think we should remember the actual woman more than her fictional depiction by a man in a fictional story adapted from a book written by another man.
