in case you dont know: https://starlabs.systems/pages/starlite
pretty high quality and affordable tablet geared towards running linux
also im pretty sure that star labs, unlike system76, actually designs their own machines, which is pretty awesome. and they still all comes with coreboot
@nano damn, i actually kinda want that, it looks so nice, it could work for a laptop (which i’ve wanted for a long time), and it even has support for a drawing pen(!!)
but i don’t just have $1000 to casually drop on a tablet
@nano not when you live where i do (this is with the pen and keyboard)
@delta oh i didnt add the pen or keyboard. base model is exactly und exactly £500
@delta although with the pen and the keyboard its still only £620 🥴
@nano i had also added a bigger ssd and charger, the base cost with nothing added is ($878) $736, with just the pen and keyboard added ($1,056) $913, and that with a 1tb ssd and 5m charger is the cost i posted a screenshot of
as far as (decent) laptops go, thats really not a bad price tag, but its still a cost my broke dysfunctional ass has never had the money for
@nano i live in canada, the price of everything is high here, my loose estimation is to just assume the price in CAD is twice what it is in pounds
though its actually 0.61 GBP per 1 CAD currently
which… on closer inspection, that exchange rate means its actually cheaper here, C$736 for the base model is about £448 (sadly doesn’t make me less broke though)
@nano Same. I’ll probably get a Lenovo Thinkpad, though, since it’s also a PC tablet and it’s still cheaper to buy used ones.
@nano a linux tablet/laptop that also can work as a drawing tablet looks so tempting to me
if i wanted to get back into drawing regularly it would be so nice (compared to my ancient wacom, which has abominable color reproduction (like magenta just doesn’t exist on it), is held together by tape, and is tethered to my desktop which i am too wormy to sit properly at anymore)
and having a smol and light laptop i can set wherever or use in bed when i’m tired computering would be quite nice (probably also better ergonomically than the way i shrimp-mode to use my desktop when i’m too lazy to sit up correctly…)
and to some extent could take the role of my aging android tablet (not perfectly, loses android apps and is bigger than i’d like for a media tablet, but w/e, would be easier than finding a new android tablet that doesn’t suck)
mmmmmm, where can a dysfunctional loser like me find $1000 with little job prospects or motivation
don’t mind me posting late, i wrote this shortly after the first post and got distracted and forgot to send post
