hey dont tell people "holy shit your phone is old you should get a new one, the security issues!!!!"

do you really think i am happy that my phone that ive only had for six years doesnt get security updates despite working fine?

do you think i can afford to replace it?

"well then you should get a dumb phone and use your laptop for other things"

are you fucking kidding me? really? 1) my laptop is even older, it's 17", and takes like 5 minutes to start up, im not carrying that everywhere and 2) MOST THINGS DONT HAVE FUNCTIONAL WEBSITES ANYMORE

and really, do you think i should have to afford to replace it?

there is no reason my Pixel 3, which runs apps PERFECTLY FINE, should be abandoned to the ages. it's also one of the few Pixel models that cant even be given a new OS, since no one has worked out all the model-specific issues with it.

there is no reason i shouldnt still be getting updates, and no reason i shouldnt be able to easily switch to GrapheneOS or something else.

stop calling me a bad user for being 1) poor and 2) unwilling to give in to manipulative capitalist planned obsolesence. yell at the people making these decisions. my phone is intact after six years. im proud of that and i will use this until it goes spicy pillow.

PS give us back battery replacing, SD cards, and headphone jacks

I just renewed my library card. It was free. You should renew yours too.

Active library cards tell governments that their libraries are used.

That info is something that helps combat the stupid afoot in banning books and closing libraries.

Apparently people at DefCon are getting their hotel rooms searched for:
- FT232H
- STM32 devboard(?)
- Breadboards
- Logic analyzers
- Soldering irons
- Flipper Zero
- Lockpicking tools

I get lockpicking tools (though Lockpicking Lawyer would disagree), but the rest?

Glad I never planned to go to one, I would get busted so hard they'd take me straight to prison (as I carry FT232H, ESPs, soldering irons and logic analyser with me to every con/conference I attend).

America is truly a meme state.

"You're going to be alright. You just stumbled over a stone in the road. It means nothing. Your goal lies far beyond this, doesn't it? I'm sure you'll overcome this. You'll walk again... soon."

Is Israel committing war crimes?

No, it's Amnesty International, UNICEF, The International Court of Justice (ICJ), The International Criminal Court (ICC), Human Rights Watch and one their founders, multiple Holocaust survivors, The Red Cross, Israel-based human rights organization B'Tselem, Doctors Without Borders, OXFAM, The Center for Constitutional Rights, and the United Nations who are wrong.

This is a very normal opinion to hold.

Ad blockers are not just a nice measure against annoying advertising. They protect against malware (see malvertising), save bandwidth and therefore energy and help us to stay focused, as many distractions are removed.
So they are good for security, the climate and our mental health.

Ad blockers are awesome!

The nice thing about working in older programming languages:

  • There are books.
  • Books are cheap.
  • After you go on a holiday, the language is still the same.

i didn't even know qemu could be used to run binaries meant for entirely different architectures. i thought it was just a lightweight virtualbox alternative.
