not sponsored, but stalwart has honestly been the easiest selfhosted email i've used. stupidly easy to set up, and while it has its flaws (the installation method is a bash script D:), even someone who's just getting into selfhosting can start a mail server using an inexpensive VPS (heck, our email is hosted in a $12/year VPS). https://stalw.art/

yes. substack kinda suffers from the same issues as medium, aka a platform that could absolutely die or become unusable if poorly managed. but if it pushes people towards better forms of writing, that's a good first step.

The worst kind of tech hype is when something is portrayed as inevitable and unstoppable, with criticism or doubt blithely dismissed as "they don't get it".

Just because a giant tech company pours vast amounts of money down a toilet, that doesn't mean the toilet is going to start spewing gold coins into the air.

hi! i have fled israel to the united states, and will be staying here for up to three months.

We’re behind $1000, because of a banking issue and them holding it for two weeks. We haven’t eaten in 3 days, are all incredibly sick, and have no cool air due to a part breaking that cannot be replaced till Monday.

We’re miserable, so I’m trying to get anything I can to last till July, mainly just something to eat for tonight. This is terrible.

community guidelines

  1. you must be over 14 years old to join. coral castle's servers are hosted in chile, and under article 19,628 of the laws of chile, we are unauthorized to collect data from people under 14.
  2. do not spam or raid. the fediverse is not your space to intoxicate.
  3. nsfw/nsfl content must be marked as sensitive. coral castle is built to be used as a casual instance, and as such should be accessible anywhere.
  4. hate speech, paraphilia, and harassment will get you banned. having basic human decency is key anywhere. whether it is in real life or on the internet, don't be a jerk.
  5. keep things legal. this includes pirated content, since we want to keep a good relationship across fediverse servers. posting CSAM is strictly forbidden and will result in legal action.

moderation policies

the sanctions for local users will be relative to the gravity of their infringements, varying from simply deleting the offending material, to warning the user through a three-strike system, to immediately banning the offending user.
