I'm trying out all the microblogging alternatives and Mastodon deserves way more credit than it gets for having a lot of great people pleasers already baked in: Editable messages, the Tweetdeck-like advanced web interface, a chronological feed.

@almalinux Look at this! is letting users know about a serious vulnerability it intends to patch. They take security seriously!!

I had already taken a superficial look at macOS, a year ago, but now, I spent 30 days with it, as my main OS, on an M1 MacBook Pro.

And boy am I glad this is over, and glad to be back on !

Here are my conclusions about the hardware, the software, and the general experience of using a Mac as a Linux user:

@tek @keifer Similar use-case here. Multiple organizations all using Google Docs or other similar big providers, and all of the big providers assuming you'll only ever be one user at a time. And thanks to Multi-Account Containers, as far as they're concerned, that's exactly what's happening :P

@keifer Ab. So. Lutely.

For work, I often need to log in to multiple AWS accounts at once. Without Firefox, that means having several different browsers open, with both regular and private browsing windows open, to keep them all separated. With Firefox, I create a tab per account. It’s an astoundingly better experience.

And now I use LMDE btw. Didn't have much luck with vanilla Debian.
LMDE though, the distrohopping went so smooth, I'm really impressed. Maybe I'm a weirdo who wants to be a "Linux normie" and don't want to do anything manually? πŸ€” πŸ˜‚

Holy hell, being able to declarative configure Syncthing in is game changing for me. I never used to use syncthing because it always peeved me that I had to reset up all the folders.

A major hindrance to RHEL adoption isn't even the price as much as the hassle. Having to do a requisition at all and then having to fight with RHSM are non-trivial. Even in environments where I have plenty of RHEL seats, I often will still deploy AlmaLinux just to not have to deal with the extra overhead of RHSM over the lifecycle of the instance.

@funnelfiasco @cameronbosch Very much depends on who the other person would have been. When people's paycheck depends on going along with corporate decisions, they often get their way in some form, for better or worse. Still, imagine if Jonathan Schwartz or Eric Schmidt had gotten it. Stuff like last week's news would have probably been more the norm than the exception.

@funnelfiasco @cameronbosch Oh! Sorry - I misread. I thought you were pondering if Jim hadn't been Red Hat CEO. Completely my bad! Yeah, sometimes I imagine if Whitehurst had gotten the IBM CEO gig instead of Krishna.
