Ok. I want to make a response on the whole TheBadSpace stuff. Hopefully Are0h is reading this, since I feel like it's important to find some way to amend this extended drama.

I want to start off by saying that the concept of having a shared place where to find a fairly curated blocklist (mostly for blocking the worst, as in literal nazis, CSAM-adjacent instances, etc) is not a bad concept by itself. Most instances have *some* blocks in common and if we want to filter the worst of the worst, as in build a "base" in which you won't accidentally be federating with total assholes, then go for it. If people don't want to be adjacent to a project as such, that's also fair, as long as they're not assholes themselves

I am also not against having safe spaces for minorities - heck, from day one that's been my goal with mint.lgbt, one of my other projects of mine I started 3 years ago already.

However, Are0h, many people who are criticizing your project are not doing it out of the sake of bigoted violence, as quoted from you. The criticisms come from the view that TheBadSpace seems to be pushed aggressively from your part, to the point that it could break the structure of the Fediverse being a decentralized and democratic platform. And it's not because it's only filtering anti-Black instances - it's because your personal biases are seeping into the list, which are not all for the protection of black people. At least, that's the view that's being shared amongst some members of the community.

I do believe your project can still be developed in a way that it respects the structures that the Fediverse and its members are comfortable with. The way I've done it more recently is holding votes on whether moderation decisions are good or not for the community in case they're dubious and mixed. Finally, listen to feedback, even if it may seem extreme for your project. (I'm not saying to listen to people plainly discriminating you, you know what to do in that case)

If you have any questions regarding this post or you want to talk with me regarding this situation, this thread is open.

for the rest of my followers: this is my attempt at trying to mediate this drama, because at this point it's going so out of control that it's causing even small and local instances i'm close with being divided on the issue.

@m I sincerely dount @Are0h et. al. actually want to improve anything.

All he did was constantly use made-up claims of racism as a baseball bat against critics no matter their tone and wording.

If you want an actually curated blocklist where people do provide evidence and where proper appeals and removal processes are in place then I'd recommend this one I maintain and I happily invite you to contribute to it:

Also feedback is highly sought after...

@m As I said, I’m done responding to bullshit from people who don’t the slightest idea of how my project works and refuse to read the information provided.

Save your ignorance and condescension for your bigot friends.

Fuck you and good night.

@Are0h Look, I understand if you don't want to respond to this. But I seriously want to help out if possible. So please, chill out, and let's talk. I am not looking to harm you, nor is anyone I've seen involved lately. We need an understanding

@m

the public sources in tbs are already "voting" with their blocks. and ro's blocklist isn't in the sources.
you can see how many of the sources have blocked a domain, and later will show the % of the total sources.
for a lot of ppl, "the worst of the worst" is not enough, because they are going to be victims of other "not as bad" actors.
and tbs isn't going to replace your instance's blocklist. it's just a reference someone can use if they want.

@m

the application process for being a source is going to be out soon too, so they will be diversified.

A lot of the problems are already been noticed and will be fixed, but some ppl won't read so they don't know. And other some don't care anyway.

@skrlet13 Following this post I clarified that some aspects were misinformed in a reply which I boosted (https://seafoam.space/notice/Aa4YRxAAd2Uxe1vGVs), which were more than anything complaints on the now outdated and offline version of TBS, before tweaking that is. I'll agree that the current version is much better, my concerns only being now that Are0h could complement it with a better interface for reciepts.

However, the response made by Are0h to this post was rather hostile, along with many others from people just sending suggestions or questions (in one case him mocking someone for fixing a DNS record that was out of spec and could break federation, https://ubiqueros.com/notes/9jwdqkezan). Not to mention how he compared tech.lgbt to KF, which is out of proportion and is harmful to victims of harassment from KF.

In a nutshell, my post was very much far from good, but he is actively doing harm to the community, and if he wants to heal paths he should like treat people who are just willing to talk with him with respect, and from there clarify some points. But by this point I'm moving past the situation since the case is rather closed.

@m AFAIK, a member of t.l lied about ro's work and ppl from that instance started harassing him.

It's better to leave him in peace
