It's kinda wild how the Guyana/Guiana region of South America (the northernmost coastline that provides easy entry into the Caribbean) was colonized by all five major European imperial powers.

Like, English Guiana is currently the nation of Guyana, French Guiana, is, well, French Guiana, Dutch Guiana is Suriname, Spanish Guiana is eastern Venezuela, and Portuguese Guiana is the state of Amapá in northern Brazil.

Five whole languages and colonial histories in such a small part of the continent, that's crazy.
