@yassie_j @easrng the Chinese "cat instance" (was a mix of cat pics and politics) also got either closed down or put behind the Great Firewall (albeit in such a way that it can still be identified as a working Fediverse instance) after Beijing authorities leaned on the admins (consider they are likely to be middle class young people in tech careers which they don't want to jeopardise, and Beijing may even have let them carry on providing they don't federate with the West)
