If everything goes absolutely right, we want to have an event over at Signal this Friday where we will launch the minecraft server, hoping it won't explode lol

It'll have:

• Mostly vanilla gameplay
• An optional modpack
• Proximity-based voice chat
• Bedrock compatibility (Xbox, Switch, Android, iOS, Windows, Linux?)
• Microsoft account compatibility
• A custom authentication server, powered by Drasl and the Fediverse, for people playing the... 🏴‍☠️ way
• A system that bans everyone who's running Linux, or MacOS /j

We already know the serverside stuff we want and the clientside stuff we'll give to you optionally.

In fact, we already got bedrock compat and our auth server running, we only need to integrate it with the Fediverse and to do some adjustments once the VPS is here

voice chat is also not something i'd dare use, and it wouldn't work over tor anyway

2 issues are long-ish syncing times at launch and requiring mobile app, tho for me they are more annoyances than problems
also ig the thing that doesn’t allow syncing chat history on first use, but it is being slowly inplemented (I think it’s available in beta now?)
but yeah I don’t personally mind the desktop app
But I do totally agree with phone nunber requirement, at least it is a bit better now that you can actually hide it, it used to be just always visible and used as an way to connect which was just bleh

but it is private in terms of what you do on it
especially since introduction of sealed sender which means signal doesn’t even know who sent message to who (except initial message, unless you accept sealed sender from everyone)
Signal is known from the fact that when subpoena’ed they just responded with Phone Number, time of account creation and last usage time,
