i never heard of this holiday despite my parents being violently christian. is that a catholic thing? mine were eastern european orthodox
@mynameistillian its a catholic thingy they just dont eat red meat
ahhh wait no we did have lent, it was just called the great fast for some reason
my parents didn't adhere to it at all LMFAOOO
@mynameistillian @xenia where I come from it's: no red meat, no pork or other mammals, some people also avoid birds, other not. fish is allowed. serious catholics also eat generally less and do various types of penance, but most don't really do a lot for lent besides this modest alteration in diet.
@mynameistillian @xenia Please understand that for American Christians, giving up red meat is like giving up water. The personal suffering they must endure without their hourly 1/2 pound hamberders is incomprehensible
@elilla @mynameistillian @xenia isnβt jesus a fish
@shroomie @xenia @mynameistillian I mean you are aware that Catholicism centres around literal, physical theo-cannibalism right
@elilla @xenia @mynameistillian i mean i wasnβt thinking about that but like, thanks for reminding me lol
@elilla @mynameistillian @xenia weird how jesus has so much flesh and blood to share
