#QuestionOfTheDay as "Fedi Plays Pokemon" (https://void.rehab/@fediplays) has been stuck on the electric gym trashcan puzzle for weeks now, my question of the day is:
what's the worst video game puzzle you've ever encountered?
@ami_angelwings This one was one of the worst and best ones at the same time: X-Men for the Sega Genesis.
You would get to a point in the game where the world was exploding all around you and Professor X would just tell you to "Restart the system!" over and over. If you failed, it was Game Over. We were stuck on it for months (mostly because the internet didn't exist, really). Turns out that we were supposed to take it literally and RESTART THE GENESIS. Who knew?
@ami_angelwings I once tried playing "The 7th Guest", an adventure game from the FMV era. The chessboard puzzles there are *murderous*.
@ami_angelwings I had some serious trouble with putting an alien turtle skeleton back together in The Dig (LucasArts mid-90s)
@ami_angelwings I post “I miss your questions” and the next post I read is this:/
I pretty much give up and look them up, I’m no good at thinking the same way as video game puzzle makers do:)
But I think ironically it might be Maniac Mansion, as you have so many variation due to selecting three out of many characters. And then you can get into situations where you are stuck and have to restart the game. :(
They learnt from this and created many amazing games after that. But I’ve always kinda wish we could get a remake of Maniac Mansion where you can’t get stuck.
(And on the off chance David Fox or Ron Gilbert sees this, it’s otherwise a lovely game and one hell of a technical achievement!)
@AppleAmps walking into every single room with the x-ray scope to scan the entire thing -_-
