I'm kind of excited to see what apple's developer conference next week will be. At the same time, I fully expect to be disappointed.
Things I want:
- More cheap macs.
- Gaming announcements.
- Less apple intelligence.
What I'll probably get:
- More expensive macs.
- Depressing game updates.
- All apple intelligence.
@shroomie I mean, this is a valid question! There are two answers -
1. I mean, I like macs a lot and I enjoy the experience of using them. As a result, it's nice if I can use my existing mac for more things.
2. Honestly, I need to use my mac for app development, and I have limited finances, so it means that my PC isn't generally as powerful as the mac that I own. As a result, if a game can run well on the same mac that I use for app dev, it's definitely a win.
@shroomie Ahhh, but there is a "proton for mac" in the form of the game porting toolkit combined with "Crossover" by the Codeweavers group.
As a random tangent, Codeweavers are the same folks that Valve contracts with to work on Proton - https://www.codeweavers.com/about/news/press/20220225
However, they also ran Crossover which now has support for quite a few games on mac. Proton is still much further ahead, but there are exciting new developments in this space these days...
@shroomie Heya! Linux is excellent!
I was actually there back when the "deep magic" was written. Believe it or not, I was a linux evangelist and open source contributor back in the early 1990s, hahaha.
Still use only linux on my servers and other systems that aren't my daily driver, but I switched to macs full time about a decade ago.
I mean. After twenty years of linux on the desktop, I just wanted basic stuff. Ofc, then I started messing around in the weeds and mac became just as messy.
