Yknow, despite them being masterful works of art I could never get much out of the Fear and Hunger games thematically. Like with media where the main artistic goal is "acknowledging suffering" I just feel like, idk man, I *know* suffering is a core component of the human experience, I don't need you to remind me. I get a lot more meaning from media that tries to acknowledge beauty and hope in spite of suffering, y'know?

This is basically the same problem I have with Bocchi The Rock, btw. Like, if the main reaction I'm supposed to have to your show is "the character is mentally ill like me :0" it's just not gonna mean much to me.

@AppleAmps get it twisted: some media makes you sad. this is actually bad, all media should have a good ending to prevent Me from getting depressed at it

I know this was framed comedically but I drank half a liter of coffee this morning so like, might as well say a couple of things, first off of the properties mentioned here Bocchi doesn't have a sad ending and arguably Fear and Hunger doesn't either if you take the creation of logic in Termina to be a good thing.
Second off I'm entirely capable of liking and finding meaning in art with sad endings, Don't Look Up is one of my favorite movies.
Third off even if I didn't like sad endings they don't make me depressed, at most I don't think they emotionally resonate with me.
Fourth even if I did dislike it on that level I didn't make any prescriptive statements about how they should be, only described my feelings about that kind of theme.
And fifth, yeah dawg I know some media makes you sad, there are different ways to be sad though and I find some more meaningful than others, my favorite book I read last year was about three drug addicted middle aged men dying in a nuclear explosion and I loved it because the ways in which the narrative balanced its plot's tragedy with moments of respite and resistance was really beautiful to me.

@AppleAmps

i just think your reading of bocci is incredibly misguided considering you didnt even watch all of it and it meant a lot to me so to hear it put as the "all it is is the mc is mentally ill show, boring!" is- annoying

bocci and F&H arent sad endings, i know that very well, (i mean f&h kinda is but it depends i guess idk) but the goal of that post was simply to minorly provoke you 'cause seeing bocci talked about that minorly provoked me

like- the main reaction to bocci isnt supposed to be "omg mc is just like me fr"

"omg im JUST LIKE rei ayanami!" isnt the takeaway for evangelion either but you'd think that if you saw three episodes and only heard people talk about that probably

bocci's takeaway for me is that no matter how deep in the hole you are you can still do shit if it means a lot to you. f&h's takeaway to me IS pretty much "life is suffering" though so- i cant really argue with you there, but it was cathartic for me so there's more to it than simply acknowledging that it exists, there's how the viewer(player) interprets that suffering and gives it context and meaning for themselves

If you disagree with the post please just say your disagreements instead of ragebaiting. I'm sorry that my opinion about an anime provoked you but there are better ways to go about that. Also yeah I didn't finish it but with all due respect if the first half of a show is basically just aggressive pandering to mentally ill people and literally all discussion of it I've seen, including by people trying to convince me to watch it, is just "as a mentally ill person it felt good to be pandered to" I don't think it's wrong to derive some conclusions from that.
Also the main fucking post wasn't even about Bocchi! I used it as a marginal side example for a bigger bit about Fear and Hunger which you fucking agreed with!

@AppleAmps

i didnt really intend on having a full convo about it bc my head hurts atm so- realistically i shouldve just ignored it tbh, there are indeed better ways to go about that.

idk when the last time is that you tried to watch bocci but that's not how i felt about it at all. tbf it's been since it came out since ive seen it, but idk. i cant imagine how that's all you got from it unless you came into it wanting to be cynical about it.

and i didnt agree with your take on f&h in whole, i think what it's trying to communicate is "its suffering" yeah, but i think people could get a lot more out of it than just understanding that that's what it's saying, because i did
