pocketdeerbelly was right about undertale. it really does hinge a lot of basically everything it does on moralizing the way you play it, while ignoring that this supposedly morally wrong method of play is only possible because toby allows it to be. it’s very much for the best that deltarune doesn’t deal with such themes as overtly, you really can’t without portraying the author as an evil god. obviously deltarune may throw a wrench into this depending on how its own themes develop, but one ought not to theorize too definitively about unfinished serial works.
@AppleAmps undertale’s moral question is just a nothingburger. if you buy into treating the characters like people (the intended method of play) then hurting them is obviously bad while if you don’t develop object empathy for mr. fox’s OCs then it doesn’t matter. deltatune is a more considered approach on how gamers interact with game narratives, even if a bit on the nose (eg. the plot of undertale is tuned into a religeon on account of the fanbase is Like That)
@AppleAmps actually, how much of the church could be said to be informed by the fandom vs being a setting-appropriate reinterpretation of the prophecy? having a teen girl talk about how hot the angel is would definitely be the latter, but idk how deep of a cut this actually is.
@AppleAmps anyway if “How does the player character feel about you controlling them?” as a question appeals to you even with a definite answer then you should play “Who’s Lila”.
