the fact that anyone ever buys phones over $80 is so absurd to it

@0x6e6174 tbf a lot of people dont buy their phones, they rent them from their carrier
@Chloe that is also silly. why would you rent something that costs like $80 up front
[0x636174]
@0x6e6174 …that one would hate knowing how much this one spent on its phone….
@Chloe yes. this it does not understand. it has spent under $400 on phones or phone parts in total ever. this includes money it has spent buying parts to fix friend's phones. the most it has ever payed for a phone is $0. why would anyone spend money on these. the msrp of a new phone is like at least 1k or something absurd like that. why would anyone spend 1k on something that lasts like a year or two
@Chloe a1662 iphones cost $60-$80 and last like 8 years instead of 1-2. it does not understand buying new phones
@Chloe the only reason it would buy a new phone is to get a pixel it can install graphene on
@Chloe it doesn't think those are very expensive, either. a pixel 8 nowadays probably costs like $280 or something.
@shroomie @Chloe idk what the newest version of ios it will run is, but it could certainly run discord a year ago. it had issue with some apps, but the os was intentionally not updated so as to keep the jailbreak this one installed working. the phone could have supported a newer ios version at the time.
@gen @Chloe firstly, the battery life of all its phones has not ever been noticeably different, secondly I want the opposite of a bigger screen! big screen means phone no fit in hands! this is suboptimal design!
it forgot about camera tech getting better (it isn't used to phones having cameras still—its old phone's camera sensor got really really blurry (the sensor! not the lens!) and then lost the ability to perceive color. also, it drilled a hole where the camera was to make it so it could put its phone on its keychain). it guesses that is one case where it makes sense to buy newer phones, but also like,, just buy a camera if a nice camera sensor is the goal
i mean it depends on people’s hand sizes and how they use their phone, some might find a big screen better to use than other people, and the general trend is that people buy big screen phones more than small screen phones these days (apple discontinued the mini for a reason)
buying a nice camera costs a lot more money than getting a phone with a good camera, the phone is multipurpose, versus a camera that’s dual purpose
@shroomie uhh fairphones do not support graphene and iirc graphene has said fairphone is actively hostile against working to add support

@0x6e6174 i mean, its had its phone for 3 years now, almost 4

@0x6e6174 wdym how? it works fine, still gets software updates, and new phones are really expensive
