Lukewarm AI take
Show content
I think the more I learn and think about "AI" the more I unironically approach a "guns don't kill people, people kill people" position.

Like, glorified autocomplete isn't gonna kill us all, image generators aren't gonna kill us all, in fact they're pretty nifty tech-wise. What IS a pretty big danger are the techno-feudalists and general techbros that think glorified autocomplete is the second coming of christ and we must render all natural resources, economic materials, and human thought to it. That last bit is what's fucked.

Oh, of course! Sorry, I should've clarified, "guns don't kill people" is a dogshit stupid argument when talking about guns, their literal only use is to do harm. I *do* think it's a pretty fine position to hold on AI though, for the reasons I stated.

That's also a fair point to make, like unlike guns "AI" has uses that aren't purely "point at thing and make it blow up" but it's not like it HASN'T been used to kill people.

@AppleAmps @dps910 guns can be used to defend against oppression , ai can only be used as a weapon by massively rich and powerful operations . so like . whatever

Specifically to kill people at the behest of those same bourgeois technofascists I was talking about in my post.
