So much British art I've seen shows Italy as this land of seduction where everyone is hot and sexually liberated which, like, might be true but it's funny how at odds it is with the framing I'm more used to. At least in my family Italy was always treated as this primordial unc soup in which everyone is constantly angry and very loud.

Fair enough! Argentina shares a similar stratification but across the board we're a lot more sexually liberal so I guess it doesn't pack that same punch. Also for most Argentines Italy is a place our ancestors tried and succeeded to escape from, which adds other connotations.

@shroomie @AppleAmps the british public are seemingly uniquely among our neighbours completely uninterested in culture, if you go to france on the adverts on the walls you'll see arthouse conema, theatre performances, museums, opera etc, at about 10x the frequency of britain, almost every fairly average (non-german) western european ive talked to has had far more of an interest in culture than the average brit. And regarding the sexuality thing, its not as such that its excessive really, just that it's tacky and gross, Sun page three girls with their breasts out telling the reader we need to go to war with iraq is the spirit of the nations sexuality, its grotty, its tabloidy, its tacky and it stinks of the aura of an old sweaty man grunting as he jerks off by himself mumbling "oh you like that, oh you like that, do you?" to an imaginary woman, just all around horrid.
