Queer people have always suffered under communist regimes, it’s well documented. Queer people are CURRENTLY suffering under communist regimes.

I just don’t understand why anyone would think a violent revolution followed by the creation of a massive government would somehow change the majority’s mind about queer rights.

@dfxluna i don’t think many queer communists hold the opinion that communism would magically solve bigotry since it’s an economic political model and not a governance model. there are people who are advocating for a one party system but that isn’t the only type of government expression that allows communism to be implemented.

the subject of queerness and economic model are entirely disconnected but there’s a reason people are connecting the two. most of history operated in an communist, anarchist or feudalist model.

the topic of queer expulsion and bigotry only came to rise alongside the industrial era when legal doctrine which was still rooted in religious text was enforced nation wide rather than in proximity to the church. this happened through the medicalization of sexuality which got power through capitalism through the industrial era.

so when people fallback to communism as an escape hatch it is as a vehicle to escape the capitalism that was brought forth by the industrial revolution that is used as a tool to oppress non-conformity.

in most of history, being queer was not as bad as being a woman especially outside of the church’s influence.

liberal western nations are currently causing with their capotal-colonialism so much death and pain to most of the rest of the world, i see queer communists not as people who think communism would necessarily be good for them but as people who find in communism a way to fight again other types of more global injustices

Also frankly in the here and now people who self-ID as socialist or communist are way less likely to hatecrime me than, like, basically everyone else, in my experience.
Communists in the 20th century were very queerphobic, as was everybody else, but I don't know why anyone would assume that's intrinsic to the economic model and not a sign that those early attempts to build communism were products of their time, socially speaking.

Yeah I think he's more or less sincere -- and to be clear probably agree with him 95% of the time -- so maybe grifter is too strong a word, but I do think he's an opportunist and so just goes with the wind and doesn't really offer anything tangeable praxis wise or have a rigorious grasp of theory, he just makes money off of uspol reaction content, and that describes a whole class of people.

Being a Hasan hater is also a trap, like he plays a role, he's not *for* me, i guess best case him and his community are a stepping stone to something more sophisticated

the mistake i think people fall into is not separating the industry ( pornhub, onlyfans) from sex workers as workers, obviously their interests are opposed, no one confuses this in any other industry

Queer people are currently suffering, and worse, going by simple numbers, under capitalism. Actually, all people, not just queer, are.

It wouldn't. However, a democratic government representing the majority which satisfies its population's needs and doesn't engage in anti-queer struggle as its prime policy aim (unlike literally every Western government) is obviously a positive, no?

Social attitudes change over time, even the wokest Euro country didn't used to be like that. Reactionary attitudes are cultivated by reactionary classes to keep the people angry at everything but the correct thing, without that people just kinda don't care and attitudes are rather fluid. And constant attacks from imperialists on global south countries using LGBT rights as a cudgel (see your own post for an example) doesn't help popular attitudes.
