With a Bluesky engineer – again – recently going on to devalue an artists’ work, in addition to a bunch of FUD and misinformation regarding Claude Code, LLMs and “The Future”, it is becoming increasingly more difficult for us to justify staying on Bluesky.

The reason we even stuck to it at all is because one of our members (alexia) felt it was important to exist across two networks, to allow more people to find our work and more people to benefit from it. Every day, something is new to added on the other side of that story, making it harder and harder to justify this over leaving.

In other words, we would like to hear your feedback about whether you feel this is important.

Do you feel it is important for us to be multi-protocol?

@the it’s a trade-off between exposure and sticking to your beliefs. being on a platform is at least endorsing its existence enough to use it. but being on there also means you may reach people you wouldn’t reach otherwise

you could have a presence on bsky, but make it obvious that you think it is awful and also state the reasons why it’s awful in a pinned post, on your profile, etc

@the i feel like using a platform governed by bad people doesn't inherently mean you support their awful actions, especially if you're using it to highlight their behaviour and providing projects that help people; like what yall are doing.

Not everyone that uses twitter glaze elon musk every day; many people crictize him there on the daily. For example, many great LGBTQIA+ artists still use twitter actively, why? Because they need to. They cant have the same following on Bsky or the fediverse and they make their living out of comms. Whilist being on twitter they still talk about the horrid and putrid things musk and other monsters do on that platform and protest against it.

I feel like yall should keep the bsky account and promote yall selves,, but highlight the bad actions of the bsky team when they do it again

@renixed quite frankly, we believe that using Twitter as an example here is about the worst example that one could ever give, because all that is left there is Nazis and bots. The higher follower number doesn’t actually mean anything if that’s only a constellation of thousands of bots.

But my point still stands. Being on an online platform ruled by bigots doesnt mean you're a bigot or accept their twisted ""thinking"". Living in the USA doesnt mean you support the fascist in chief. One might still live there either because moving is too expensive or because they like their home but still protest and go against the higher ups because they don't want their home to be ruined by some shithead. The same one might also help other people fight against the system by teaching how to defend themselves, avoid surveillance etc.

You all have awesome ideas, values and even functioning projects like makko that everyone should know about and bsky is a way to do that as yall said.
