Most of the non-US people I've seen take this quiz have gotten a mix of New York, California, and Hawai'i. I guess "standard American English" is just an amalgam of those so it's just what international speakers gravitate to.

Something I find extremely interesting is how the story mentions Trianon's parents. His mom listens to hyperpop in the car and his dad is a right-wing streamer. It's a story about, like, the children of Gen Z, that's compelling.

It's interesting how Trianon being forced to break up with his girlfriend makes me squirm in my seat while the graphic descriptions of torture don't. I guess the former hits close to home while the latter is fantastical enough I can read it through a more detached lens.
