certified professor that everything will be okay in the end
almost certainly not a real person

i'll accept most follow requests, and I'm probably a lot more scared of you than you are of me. let's be friends.

avatar: otherwise monochromatic anime girl with purple eyes wearing a black dress on a black background, sitting in lotus position with a laptop

banner: animated long-shot of an employee being filmed by a man in front of a fast food joint (from "pizza movie" by vewn)

PSA: Disabled people who feel like they do very little or only really contribute to anarchy by taking online. I appreciate you and think your contributions are immensely valuable. Lots of very valuable anarchy is done by people who can do very little bit sit in bed all day.

Also I'm sorry that I and other anarchists haven't been more successful in doing projects that make anarchy more accessible to many types of disabilities.

Life is hard lmao

@kopopp i feel like having romantic feelings for a stranger has got to entail at least a little projection. Like, you just have so little to go off of otherwise

I remember feeling this way when I was younger, but I think in retrospect those feelings always came from a place of finding someone attractive in all the superficial ways, plus feeling the cultural imperative to be in a romantic relationship

@siguza

> To be more concrete and clear, personal attacks or threats addressed at the folks working on the platform are not OK. That's not how you get your voice heard, that's how you get yourself banned!

Making things personal is a really good way to make people feel ashamed of working for the bad guys, and it looked like it worked alright for Yoav Weiss, even if he still seems to be clueless or dangerously negligent about it

So one of the people behind that Google WebDRM proposal wrote a blog post where he:

  • Assumes a victim role
  • Wants the reader to feel guilty for speaking out against Google because that hurts the people working there
  • Dismisses all legal criticism because Big Tech doesn't want their employees to comment on that
  • Dismisses all non-technical criticism because he doesn't care about it
  • Dismisses the remaining criticism because he doesn't like how it's presented to him
  • Wants the reader to think about Google's intentions as a hidden agenda, when their agenda with web attestation is pretty damn overt
  • Wants the reader to think that no such hidden agenda exists, without actually claiming so
  • Wants the reader to think that anything evil in the spec is unintentional, without actually claiming so
  • Asks for future feedback to please follow these rules laid out by Big Tech or it's your fault if you get ignored

No mention of ethics or honesty.

No "I know this looks bad". No "I promise this isn't to hurt users". Just manipulative language to make you think he's saying more than "you can't prove this will be used for evil".

Please Boost. Two transgender folx located in , in the need your help. We have made the decision to flee our home to a safer state. Our first goal is the bare minimum help we need to get from point A to point B including fees such as gas for the trip, tolls, renting a moving truck, etc. Boosting this post, sharing it on other platforms, or donating through the gofundme (other methods available on request) all put us a step closer to not having to live our lives in constant daily fear.

@jameschip I've never heard this specific take on full text search but you're very right. Whether or not people want microblogging to be ephemeral, it really just doesn't do non-ephemerality well. Not like the million other better options for persistent content.

Whenever someone tries, it feels strange to me. Like browsing the internet as a teenager knowing your parents are logging your search history. You feel like you need to act very intentionally, which makes it harder to have the kinds of organic conversations the fediverse seems to promote. That might just be me, though. I suppose it depends on what you want to get out of it

Full text search is going to encourage the use of Masto as a tool for storing information. People will make posts and expect to be able to look them up later for reference.

This is a terrible practice, people did this withnthe dead bird and now lots of stuff is either gone, or inacessable.

Masto is not a place to keep data long term. If you have things you need for long term reference then copy that stuff to a website that you run and are in control of. One where you know it will stay.

These are the same people that tried to flatter me into accepting an illegally high rent hike. I do everything in my power to not let myself be beholden to spite but I loosen up a bit on that when it comes to the likes of landlords

UNACCEPTABLE: proposes to Australian government that all online content be available for training, including copyrighted, unless specifically opted-out. Completely and Utterly Unacceptable. And this gives us a clue as to what Google will be asking for in other countries, including here in the U.S. Ludicrous in this regulatory and political environment. -L

I hate how children get to have absolutely no privacy or autonomy (bodily or otherwise) in the name of "parental rights" and protecting them. Discord recently introduced a feature that would allow parents to have a dashboard that lets them see who their kids are talking to and when and like β€” that would have actually made my life horribly worse when I was a teenager and my only friends were kids from a writing server online and I had to keep it secret from my mom because she didn't think online friends were real and that it was unhealthy to have them (despite her homeschooling me in the middle of a retirement suburb so I couldn't really make friends elsewhere). It would have actually probably led to the death or homelessness of one of my friends, who found me, and supportive people, and that she was trans, through that writer's discord. Fuck parental controls.

Edit: I've seen a couple people now come into my mentions echoing the exact rhetoric that I am railing against here β€” saying that we need to have these kinds of privacy robbing autonomy destroying controls over children's lives in order to protect them properly from predators β€” as if they haven't read this thread and think that just precisely restating the things that I am arguing against is some kind of response. Just echoing this disgusting rhetoric. Those people are basically getting instantly blocked and honestly they're doing everyone a great service by showing who they are.

@kopopp hmm... I feel like I would only use be-love-ed in a situation where the fact that the object is beloved is a noteworthy characteristic of the thing. If it's just beloved in the sense that people love it, I'd say be-loved. Not that I have any good examples for either.

Pros of doing the dishes immediately after each meal:

  • straightforward, procedural exercise of self-discipline
  • ensures the kitchen is always clean
  • is in and of itself a spiritual journey of restoration
  • would make the ghost of pat the bunny happy

Cons:

  • i don’t wanna

Am I frequently bothered and annoyed at most anarchists? Yes. But I also deeply appreciate them existing in this world with me and have great respect for most of the stuff everyone does. And I think the world is a better place because of most anarchist existing.

Which I think it's valuable to love that radical people exist in the world but understand that we may not like each other or be buddies.

(Not vague posting about anyone btw. Just it can never be stated that the anarchists who annoy me I still deeply appreciate)
