Hi, im Pan, i love GNOME, i daily drive pmOS :D
@dcz it was not that hard actually, all the heavy work adding camss was done by the kernel maintainer, so i had to dig into downstream and write the missing supplies in the dts, and map them, it wasn't easy to find what they did, but it worked, im using pixel 3a, but it should work with pixel 3a xl

This is the Unfettered Keyboard, my newly released on-screen keyboard (re-)written in for . It takes heavy inspiration from the Unexpected Keyboard for Android (even using the same XML layout format) and lets you type at least 69 characters on the default layout without switching. Not shown is support for Ctrl+Shift keyboard shortcuts with the two levels of the keymap.

@joelselvaraj Thank you!, it wouldn't be possible with all the work you and @flamingradian have done!

@BrianA i didn't have the time to test it, it should be as reliable as sdm845 phones (as long as you disable suspend)

With this, the pixel 3a will be able to take photos with both the front camera and the rear camera, we are getting close to be feature complete 🤞

this is my first picture taken with my pixel 3a running postmarketOS, thanks to @joelselvaraj for his work on which I based this port, and also thanks to @flamingradian because they guided me with some problems I had <33

It's fair to say we had a fantastic time in Colorado (and Berlin!) for GUADEC 2024.

Off the back of the event, Martín Abente Lahaye has published a conference round-up, including some highlights from his time in Denver.

Thanks to the GNOME Foundation, volunteers, staff, and everyone else who made the event unforgettable.

1 year ago I switched from Mac to Linux for professional UX design work. In this article, I explain as simply as possible:
- Why I switched to Linux
- How you can do the same.

I cover design-specific concerns like:
- How to use Apple devices like the Magic Mouse in Linux
- Which design tools are available and how to install them
- How to find help if you get stuck

I’m working on porting Mobian to the Pixel 3a, pretty much everything works, even eSIM. The kernel dev is already working on upstreaming the patches, some are already in the next Linux release.

I’ve recently posted about the progress: lemmy.sdf.org/post/19600671

Updates to that post would be that eSIM does work and that the internal microphone will work very soon once the already existing patches are pushed to the git repo.

Holy crap they did it! Nautilus FileChooser implementation has been merged!

Nautilus is getting a new file chooser dialog for the GNOME desktop, replacing the current GTK4 file picker, which will also be mobile-friendly.

The mockup can be found on GitLab: https://gitlab.gnome.org/Teams/Design/app-mockups/-/blob/master/files/file-chooser/file-chooser.png

As a Blind person i never thought i would be on social media savoring photos. But the communal Mastodon alt text game is so strong that sweet, poetic or silly descriptions abound on my timeline. Thanks to legions of people who take time to write a meaningful description of the ephemera they post, i learn so much about insects, plants, buildings, memes — all dispatches from a dimension of the world that i otherwise wouldn't experience. If you're wondering whether anybody reads these things: YES.

regarding all the mastodon4harris stuff. i can only speak for myself here, but when i donate to mutual aid requests for help i see on here, I don't fucking post about it.

I'll be the first to admit that i have at least some level of middle class guilt, i grew up middle class around a bunch of working class people, and having found a decently well paying and stable job in tech (surprisingly easy as a privileged and reasonably smart white cishet passing guy) i often think "wow i have some disposable income that's great". Being able to give that money to people who need it (and being able to find those people in the first place) is genuinely an honor, and a humbling experience.

from this perspective, i can certainly imagine why someone would be much more comfortable advertising their donation to the harris campaign (a truly middle class venture) but not so comfortable advertising their donation to some random mutual aid thing.

i think these are clearly very different kinds of donation, with different intents and expectations. From the middle class perspective it's frowned upon to appear like you're being a good person for giving your money away to someone who needs it - it's like you're trying to guilt other middle class people into doing the same and you will get shunned for it.

I think this mentality is totally the reason why some middle class people don't donate to mutual aid stuff - it's easy to try and not think about something and/or blame the victim.

Yes, this is obviously fucked. I don't mean to excuse or normalise this behaviour, I just think we should engage in a more systemic analysis (and more middle class shaming).

We live in a society that includes a lot of people who do not have economic stability. I would be broke if i gave money to every mutual aid post i see.

idk, I don't see anybody acknowledge this shit and i really wonder why??
