@AppleAmps this wasn't about you, sorry
i'll edit my post to specify that that's of course something i totally respect because really, those are two sides of the same coin:
making the decision to buy something is a personal choice and there are no right or wrong reasons to do so

I'm mad at others for saying I shouldn't waste my money, they can do whatever they want!

Ok but it won't though. Some things will, that thing specifically won't.

Also you've called saying a strategy that doesn't work doesn't work doomerism which I take offense to.

I mean you've said that this is something we should do "if we want to make a change" which like, no?

(Specifically against multinationals, I'm pretty sure boycotting like a mom and pop shop *could* work, but either way I haven't seen any proof of it from the last like 30 years)

You've been arguing against someone someone in a thread saying that buying Nintendo stuff is fine, so yeah.

Also I'm not doomer, I fully believe there are actual ways to change corporation's tactics, but boycotts have *literally never worked*.

Like if you wanted to protest them set up a group, go outside their headquarters, form a picket line, and march! That's what Argentines have done for centuries! Fucking, vandalize shit, protest outside Doug Bowser's house, there are better ways to do this!

I'm not justifying it! Nintendo sucks ass! But why are you campaigning for people not to buy Nintendo shit when it will result in literally 0 actual change to anything!

Hi! Quick question, when boycotts literally always fail, why should we spend so much time and energy making a "slow moving boycott" instead of doing any other type of political protest?

@natty @julia
Ok but like, 1) what actual good are you doing the world by choosing not to buying it and 2) aren't all multinational corporations also bad? Why should you not buy your kid a switch because Nintendo DMCAs people when you buy them clothes and phones made with child labor?

@julia
(Also literally all companies suck and have shitty business practices, like you COULD just get your games from portland indie communes but the computer you're using to play them was probably made in part by child labor)

Like, also why is that a good idea? Explain this to me.

Guys trust me if all of us adults who are informed about the implications of a companies actions we’ll hurt them financially by boycotting and they’ll have to listen!!! (ignore that the target, and largest demographic for this company are children under the age of 15)

I mean, if you wanna stop using Amazon go ahead but that has equal impact on the world as putting a salt circle around your house.
My problem is that you COULD be using that time you're wasting on trying to get friends and family to do something that has no impact and 0 political worth on trying to convince friends and families to join marches or activist groups or unions or any of the myriad ways to actually make the world better.
