Ehhhh, it depends. Indigenous Latin-Americans sure are but for whiteys like me it's not really that simple. In a way by being here and living on stolen land I'm exerting colonial oppression over the indigenous population while myself being oppressed by those "colonial countries".

So, flesh-eating screwworm has recently spread from Central America to Mexico and finally to Texas, which is its first sighting in the States since 1966. Previously it was contained in Panama due to a multi billion dollar effort by the USDA to drop sterile flies that would control population growth. Said control program started to lose its grip during the 2020's but not in a way that insured it would arrive in the states, that *was* until Musk's DOGE massively cut USDA's workforce and budget, which set the stage for it to reach the southern US and thus wreak havoc on the already strained cattle industry.

I think any analysis of Latin America has to contend with the fact that it's as much a settler colonial project as the US or Canada or Australia. I know it doesn't feel *good* or patria grande or whatever to acknowledge that fact but it's true, being settler colonies that have historically been fucked over doesn't make us *not* settler colonies.
("Oh but there are active indigenous communities in-" yeah. Same goes for the US, same goes for New Zealand, same goes for fucking Israel. Doesn't matter here)

One of the knock on effects of fedi users switching accounts so much is that sometimes I see an active account I follow and an inactive account I used to follow and have to employ CSI-style tactics to determine if they're the same person.

And, like, playing "casual" chess without really knowing or caring about theory is, in my experience, extremely dull. It's really unique in that the actual mechanics of gameplay come second to the theory. The metagame and how you maneuver around it *is* what people play.

Chess is interesting because it's a game where casual and competitive play are extremely different but no real casual scene exists. Like, a professional analysis of a Chess match is incomprehensible to someone who only knows how the pieces move in the same way that pro Smash is incomprehensible to someone who only knows what the buttons do, but you can have a bunch of hours in SSBU only playing it casually in a way you seemingly can't with chess.
