To lay my cards on the table I dont like rick and morty that much, I just keep watching out of stubborn character, so this won't be a glazefest like some of the other threads I do but im hoping that I'll like some of the episodes along the way; 'There's Something About Morty' is not one of them unfortunately.

Starting off the season with the reintroduction of evil morty then following with a bombardment of hyper hi-tech fight scenes between ridiculously power scaled main characters that look like a massive challenge to animate but have no stakes to a viewer is kind of a bad omen for the rest of the season, I'm putting on my copium supply and I'm willing to trust that maybe it's an anomaly bcs animators just like storyboarding that stuff now and again ig. Tbh this really just feels like a nothing episode just to shore up the horribly tired evil morty plotline and to do a wink at the camera fourth wall break about it being season 9 now and it becoming like the simpsons (an accusation it wears on it's sleeves because nobody cares anymore and we're solely in a 'get that bag' economy nowadays, ironically there's not even the good grace to pretend it's not true anymore, now it boasts about it and we have to pretend the real counter-cultural move is to actually be all for selling out and losing all artistic credibility as long as you crack a few jokes about how little credibility you have along the way).

I liked the reintroduction of the time police though, they've always been fun, maybe just because late r&m never used them as much as they did with the cronenberg monsters and evil morty so my associations are less tainted.
