I'm 19 but still, don't be gross in my mentions.
My avatar is a pixel art bush with legs, tired eyes, and a rose on their head.
My banner is three girls from the anime Lucky Star talking.

Just beat Brutal Orchestra! It's a hard game to wrap your head around at first but it is 1000% worth it. The gameplay is phenomenal but more importantly it has one of the best stories of any roguelike I've ever played. Nowak + Bosch are some of my favorite game protagonists ever, I think?

One of the reasons zombies work so well is they tie together a lot of common fears in a single package.

The only zombie story that plays with this consciously is Deniz Camp's Bleeding Hearts, btw. It's really really good.

That's really interesting! I think the point still stands, though, especially with how ingrained persistence hunting is in the cultural imagination.
Also being chased into a ditch or dead end by a stampede of creatures is a classic zombie setup, anyways.

@AppleAmps the eating brains thing adds to it, since that's the main other thing we have over wild animals

It's interesting how the standard zombie myth turns ancient human hunting practices on their head.
For thousands of years people hunted faster, more dangerous animals by walking in a straight line until their quarry was too tired to continue, and what is a zombie if not a slow, lurching predator that constitutionally can't run out of stamina? In a way, zombie media is about the horror of being turned into prey by something more human than us.
