It's really weird how preferences work.

A hundred years ago when I was first taught linux, they gave me a Suse. And though I like the available games, I never really warmed up to #kde.
I don't remember when I encountered #gnome, but for some reason that one was fine with me.

It's now 2024, once again I'm trying to leave windows for good (chances are really good this time!). I decided on #LinuxMint because shit just works. But a friend has #openSuse and is trying to sell me on it, and I have heard good things about it.
So I installed it on my netbook. It was just as easy (though it loses points when having to handle dual boot partitioning). Software I need is there. Yubikey is working, games are working (though since this is a netbook, I haven't tried the triple A ones).
Kde plasma objectively looks good, options are easily findable, it works well enough...

And I still dislike it. No idea why. 🤔

You know what? You can tell me that #LinuxMint is a newbie distro all you like.
I love it and I will just ignore you.

- it looks nice out of the box and has nice personalisation options
(I don't like green)
- there's software for almost everything you can think of
(I was positively surprised how many things have linux-native versions now. Dungeondraft and Wonderdraft! 💙)
- handles multiple monitors without a peep
- stuff just works out of the box
-- printer? check
--scanner? check
(yes, it's a brother. I like easy mode)
-- steam / blizzard / other games? triple check
- if stuff doesn't work out of the box, there are how-tos. If you ask me, well written and friendly how-tos.

Ich wollte mein Linux Mint von 21 auf 22 upgraden. Der Updater sagt schon, dass das mehrere Stunden dauern kann. Also hab ich das angeworfen, als ich ins Bett ging.

Schon verloren: der braucht unterwegs Input.
Schritt 3 (die eigentliche Installation) hab ich dann heut früh um 7 ok'd. Nu is 11 Uhr und läuft immer noch. 😕

Die neuen Poller an der Theodor-Heuss-Allee Ecke Klosterweg in #Karlsruhe haben Wirkung gezeigt. Die Fotos von heute während des Spiels sind vom gleichen Standpunkt aus aufgenommen worden. Bild 1 Richtung Norden, wo keine Poller stehen, Bild 2 Richtung Stadion. Wir werden der Straßenverkehrsbehörde vsl. weitere Poller vorschlagen. Mitarbeitende der Verkehrsüberwachung sind uns übrigens nicht begegnet. Die Durchfahrtsbreite der Poller beträgt 1,5 m.

So... today was our first #itsec architecture board after the crowdstrike incident, and suddenly we're talking cloud-exit-strategies and single-point-of-failures.

I am aghast! I am agog! Will wonders never cease ? 🤯

The fact that OpenAI's devs are disabling the "Ignore previous instructions…" hack for "safety reasons" tells me that they have no idea who's safety they need to preserve.

LLMs are being used to scam and fool people constantly, far more than being "helpful assistants".

For what it's worth, I have a tell word that I use to determine an LLM. If the devs actually gave a shit about user safety, they'd build in easy tells for folk.

(Hell, Bladerunner and West World were smart enough to do it.)
