@fluttergirly don’t ask about the karters 1 (it was kinda shit and never made its way out development. i think it was dropped at alpha specifically. you can’t buy it anymore)

@fluttergirly The Karters 2: Turbo Charged! it’s a heavily CTR inspired game, but among the most immediately important and noticeable changes are that the controls are a lot more free than CTR, the game’s physics are entirely deterministic, there’s no character stats, and you can mod in tracks, characters, karts, and wheels

@fluttergirly oh btw. on the subject of racing games, may i suggest one for you to check out?

I really like both Mario Kart World and Sonic Racing CrossWorlds, but one thing I think Mario Kart World does particularly better, and honestly better than a lot of racing games in general, is how like. tactile it feels. your kart reacts so satisfyingly to every little bump and slope, every change in momentum, it's got such wonderfully springy suspension

CrossWorlds (and older Mario Karts) have vehicles that feel a lot more stiff by comparison, they tend to just glide smoothly along the track and feel slightly disconnected by comparison

it's a good example of how a bit of exaggeration can end up feeling more real and tactile than adherence to more realism

@fluttergirly y’know i’ve always called this the ‘binyot’ effect, but idk if anyone would get that reference since binyot’s been further degraded into. something else

@apophis okay well for 4chan, it only exists because of SA bans, and from what i can tell, kiwifarms only exists because of christina being originally highlighted on SA, though that doesn’t excuse any harassment done to her through SA.

also, yeah the harassment and treatment of furries from/on somethingawful is inexcusable, however things have supposedly gotten better with time (both on the general harassment front and the furries in specific part), especially since the death of lowtax

not obscene, just deeply concerning

> This ties in to one of the worst tendencies I note in my own students – the tendency to unthinkingly identify with the elites of the past, to see themselves as the knight, the noble, the senator. But not the farmer, the artisan, the shepherd, the petty merchant. All too often, I see students read the class-contempt of Roman aristocrats or aristocratic medieval troubadours with horror – and then unthinkingly replicate those very patterns of thought when they themselves are thinking about the past (usually in the foolish assumption that nobles were smart and peasants were dumb). That attitude – adopted unintentionally and unconsciously, mind you – is poison not just to the study of history, but also to effective citizenship and leadership in the real world.

@apophis i hope someone gets to the bottom of the lego city river conspiracy

@apophis so it’s like, the article would start with the ‘facts’ like “someone pushed a man into the river” and then it would say “the government is saying ‘a man has fallen into the river in Lego City’”?

what *would* be a better change is to start with presenting the contrary facts first, *then* quote what the regime is trying to get you to believe, rather than the opposite order which tends to poison the well because first worlders are still habitually presuming government officials are acting in good faith

but literally

anyone

can accuse anyone of lying and ill intent

and drown out the wolf sightings with what is indistinguishable from AI wolf slop
